Speed cameras save lives.

Allegedly.

I agree with the text in there, I now spend more time looking for yellow boxes, vans, sneaky gits with laser guns and checking my speedo every 50 feet than I do looking out for children, cars and other morons.

We currently enforce spped via a lottery system - you never know the threshold of a camera so never quite know if it will go of at your current speed. Its now more important not to get caught than drive safely.

Any muppet can slow down for a camera, but they still speed up straight away after. We still have drunks, uninsured and plain stupid people on our roads, but the goverment is obsessed by extracting an easy £50 from our pockets.

The solution to all this is possibly the mass thermite destruction of all 'safety' cameras.

Economy Record

Inspired by Jeremy Clarkson's economy run with the A6 V8 turbo diesel, I decided to return from the lakes this weekend firmly in economy mode. 102 miles, averaging 55mph (mostly a quiet m6 run) and I got 45.6mpg (46.2mpg on the motorway part). Compared to the 35mpg I got on the way up, this is impressive.

However, I drove at 50 to 70mph, always climbling hills at 50-60mph. The windows were shut and the air con was off as well. I didnt touch the brakes at all on the M6 - it was a clear run.

The car was a Peugeot 406 2.2 Sri - not known for its economy!

Hard drive Checking Tools

Some tools from seagate which will check a IDE disc to see if its alive. They say 1 in 3 drives returned to them is not goosed - meaning someone has had an OS crash or loose cable(!) and sent the disc back. Unbelivable!
