Half a Marathon and some thanks
2 things today.
1) I have entered a half marathon in Blackpool on June 4th 2006. This gives me 16 weeks or so to train up to it. I did start running a week ago, and decided I needed a goal. Now I have one - run the full 13 miles in less that 2 and a half hours. Oh, and maybe lose some weight before then ;-).
2) Thanks to twice the man again - he was kind enough to feature me on his excellent blog once more. He provides daily updates of his progress in losing half his bodyweight mixed in with highlighting blogs and websites of other sucessful weight loss attempts around the interweb. Sorry its taken so long to mention it.

The pain of running
The next few weeks may see me take up a few new hobbies / sports. First of all I went out running on Saturday (well walk / running). I have never been able to run any distance - 400m would usually be too far, even when I could swim well and ride 40-60 miles a day off road. I figured running would be a good way to increase my cardiovascular conditioning and now I do not weigh quite as much, my knees might survive and I might even enjoy it. Its taken 2 days for the DOMS to really come through, and my legs are a bit sore, but I know this will stop happening by next week if I keep at it.
Second on the agenda is kick boxing. My friend who has just started police training wants to go back to it, and there's a local class on tue or thu which are both days I do not train on, so that sounds good. Should help with the fitness and flexibility.
Finally, weighed in at 12 stone 12 lb today - that's 180lb and 3lb lost in a week of higher calories and missed gym sessions. Target is 163, so 17 to go.
Next major milestone is when i have 14lb to lose - ie one stone.

Nearly 50lbs lost...
Here's my progress so far, with a trend line:

As you can see, my weight is still going down, but the last month or so its been slow.
Last week was a huge mess - went to the gym on Monday, did my new full body workout routine, came home, ate, and started to feel bad. Several hours later I was rather ill with Gastroenteritis , and didn't sleep all night. The next 2 days I could barely eat - probably had 1200 cals in 2 days. 2 days off work, worked from home on Thursday and made it back in for Friday.
The weekend was spent camping in sub zero conditions in the Lake District - so food was not to plan and I had a few beers. On the flipside I was out walking on Saturday, covering 9.5 miles, ascending 3500ft and getting to the top of the 6th highest mountain in England. This little adventure took over 9 hours, including a mile and a half in the dark at the end. Roll on summer!
Anyway, having a relaxed week this week, ill be back in the gym on Wednesday and keeping cals around 2000 - 2200 until I feel fully better.
Last week I was late on Monday morning, my usual weigh in, and ill after that so I skipped weighing in last week. Weighed in this morning at 13 stone exactly - so with any luck I might drop even half a pound this week - and hit the 12 stone bracket :-).
